About the Lake Area Film Group
The Lake Area Film Group was founded in September 2004 by a group of passionate individuals interested in growing a filmmaking community in Southwest Louisiana. That original group committed to this mission statement: To create a network of people, ideas, and resources which would be shared collectively, enabling the independent filmmaker in the Lake Area, and to host an annual film festival in Lake Charles, which would serve to both motivate and to inspire.
To help fulfill this mission, the LAFG has hosted the Contraband Film Festival for the last three years. The festival has provided a venue for members of the group as well as other area filmmakers to showcase their work. Films shown have included short, experimental and feature length. The upcoming festival will include at least two new feature length films as well as several new shorts from the local filmmaking community.
Members of our group have been involved in several local productions including the award winning films MERCY (2005) and LITTLE CHENIER (2006), and numerous short films. In 2007, several members traveled to Arizona to participate in the filming of the noir film RED 71.
Future projects include the filming of DEVIL’S TRAIL, slated for December 2007 in Arizona and MONSTER, to be filmed locally in May 2008.
The LAFG is led by executive director Scott Waldrop and meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM. Our current meeting location is on the second floor of the Central Library in Lake Charles at the corner of Ernest and West Claude.
